RHONYC Housewife Aviva Drinks This Beauty Supplement To Relieve Stress

Aviva Drescher.

She's quite the live wire this season on RHONYC. Some would say that the blonde reality star is really a mean girl who likes to ruffle feathers.

We admire Aviva's strength. She's been through a lot. Plus, she has that crazy a** father....Need we say more?

This is an interesting little nugget we found about the pretty cast member. Aviva believes in drinking a powdered, lemon-flavored supplement to provide STRESS relief.

In fact, this NYC housewife helped create the good-for-you drink mix. It's called Tranquil Day. And you can find some at GNC ($24.99).

This yummy drink mix is chock full of magnesium, calcium, potassium + vitamin D to calm down the body + balance electrolytes.

"It's amazing. I feel calm and alert," Aviva says. "Plus, it has no side effects and it's healthy!"

Well, silly Ramona gives us a throbbing headache. We could see where this might come in useful.

Kardashian Stylist Claims Biotin Supplement Keeps Hair Healthy + Shiny: But Proceed With Caution

Matrix celebrity stylist George Papanikolas who's client list includes both Khloe + Kim Kardashian, has his own beauty tip for beautiful hair.

And we've all heard about this one before.

A lot of hair professionals claim that it's BIOTIN to the rescue!

And Mr. Papanikolas agrees: "Gorgeous hair color starts from the inside. Supplementing your diet with biotin keeps hair healthy + shiny," he says to Star magazine

So, what's the scary deal about biotin?

Biotin is actually a water-soluble B-vitamin. And research shows that this supplement can make hair grow faster and healthier---the same for nails, too. But there are a few precautions to consider:

1. First---pregnant women + children should not take biotin unless prescribed by a doctor.

2. Biotin can cause acne or break-outs.

3. Some users of biotin can also experience cramping, nausea + diarrhea.

4. If allergic to this supplement, you  can develop an itchy rash, tightening of the chest, or swelling of the face + throat.

5. If you are trying to get pregant, biotin can cause miscarriage.

A deficiency in biotin is very rare. The MayoClinic.com states that there is NO established recommended dietary allowance. However---30-100mcg for adults

There are 1,000 micrograms in every milligram (mg), so 5,000 mgs. of biotin is too high a dose.

We found a chewable, yummy form of Biotin. We found it at Walmart for $4.92.

Liv Tyler Complains About Jowls At 36: Plastic Surgeons Say Cheeks Maintain Youth.

Oh, Liv Tyler...You sound so silly.

This striking woman, the daughter of rock legend Steven Tyler has opened up and been honest about her own fears of getting older. At age 36, we still think Liv looks lovely, as this recent photo shows.

Liv spoke to Glamour magazine's July issue in which she admits seeing some changes happening to her famous face, but that she's taking these observations in stride.

....."The jowls I got from my dad seem more pronounced. I've got a couple of grey hairs,' Liv added. "But I've noticed that when I'm happy and healthy on the inside - eating well, laughing with my best friend - I feel more beautiful on the outside."

So, could a woman in her 30's already develop jowls, the lower part of a person's cheeks, especially when these are fleshy or drooping.

Yes, it's possible, especially if your bone structure features a longer face + jaw, whereas a fuller, rounder face can develop a turkey neck + more sagging below the chin.

It IS tough for women to start aging when our society doesn't like to see the female species get older.

Keeping killer cheekbones will maintain one's youth say most plastic surgeons. And if you feel your face is too flat, you CAN fake it.

We stumbled onto one of the BEST YouTube videos about what fillers can do for INSTANT face rejuvenation. Take a look at this from Dr. David C. Mabrie, cosmetic surgeon, San Francisco area.

Amazing!

CG Bombshell Volume Mascara: Thumbs Up By Paula's Choice But Buyer Beware Of Losing Lashes?

CoverGirl has always enjoyed a great reputation for makeup.....until now. The gigantic beauty company has picked up some major buzz, and it isn't complimentary, either.

One young woman has come recently come forward to complain about CG's Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara. She claims she lost several lashes because the formula makes it difficult to remove the waterproof mascara.

And she is not alone. We have been reading a few more complaints about the Bombshell's hard, sticky, clumpy mascara that is "impossible to remove."

The formula is comprised of a 2-step process---1. mascara  2. top coat.

How could CG Bombshell mascara be a DUD if actress Sofia Vergara wears it + promotes it for the brand?

Even expert beauty reviewer, Paula's Choice, has given CG Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara HIGH 5's, the BEST of the BEST for 2014.

BUT-------Under CONS.....Paula's Choice does admit this:

Requires extra effort with makeup remover to make sure it's all off.

And Paula's Choice DOES again mention the difficulty trying to remove this formula:

"Bombshell Volume wears all day, without smearing or flaking. It's actually difficult to remove completely without extra effort, even using an oil- or silicone-based remover; your regular cleanser will break this down only to a point, so be sure to have makeup remover handy!"

CG suggests using their CoverGirl Clean Eyes Makeup Remover for Eyes & Lips ($4.99, at Walgreens.

Read on. These Makeup Alley reviewers aren't shy about their distaste of CG's Bombshell mascara and the possibility of losing lashes trying to remove the stuff.

Now...Does this concern you about Cover Girl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara?

And will giant company CoverGirl take action to either improve the formulaor toss it out of their mascara lineup?

Jessica Seinfeld Takes Big, Blonde Beauty Risk: Is It A Fail?

We have said this several times before---- NOT every, dark-haired woman can be blonde and have it look right.

It's a very tricky maneuver, because it's ALL about your skin tone. And even the BEST of stylists can get it wrong. Somehow the blonde shade here just looks off.

Forgive us for selecting famous woman in her own right Jessica Seinfeld, the wonderful wife of super famous Jerry Seinfeld.

42-year-old Jessica has good, healthy hair to begin with. Hair professionals would agree that's a major plus when deciding to do ANY serious, hair transformation.

Hair grows back. Period. And Jessica isn't too attached to her locks, anyway.

“Everyone is asking me why — and basically, ‘Why not?’” said Jessica to People mag. back in May. "I have no attachments to anything physically,” she continued. “My husband always says, ‘I wish you were more materialistic.’ I just have no attachments (to things) so I don’t care. If I hate my hair, it will grow."

And Jessica had excellent professionals leading the way with Sarah Spratt, her colorist who continued the major transformation with New York City stylist Rheanne White to make Jessica's cut — with its rock-and-roll vibe — match the color.

But as cute as Jessica is, we don't think this blonde shade is complimentary to her skin tone. As L.A. celebrity stylist + master colorist Kim Vo has always emphasized to us,  your complexion is key:

Kim Vo: Skin tone is the most important factor in deciding your perfect color. It takes a professional eye to determine, but for a simple read, use the veins on your wrist. If your veins are blue, warm tones like chestnut and auburn tones are for you. If your veins are more green, caramel and golden hues will compliment you. If your veins are blue/green, then warm and cool tones can be added seamlessly.

For any of us who fool around with hair color, a darn good conditioner is essential.

Scarlett Johansson likes this one for her blonde locks:
Kerastase Masque Chroma Riche ($62.50).

Everyone Still Talking About Rihanna's Racy, Almost Naked Dress at CFDA Awards

Yes, Rhinna is a gorgeous woman and one, hot tamale....BUT-----
her racy, so sheer, crystal-embellished almost naked dress
was, well...er...kind of vulgar for the CFDA Awards in NYC Monday evening.

When folks can see your areolas, honey, it's time to re-think the dress.

There is a very fine line between sexy and un-sexy. We can only imagine what Ms. lady-like Anna Wintour was thinking as she posed with the statuesque star.

Rihanna knew all eyes would be upon her entrance + exit, as she gracefully accepted this year's fashion icon award.
Maybe a couple of pasties and nude thong would have made this dress work, but we're still not sure.

Meanwhile....we LOVED Rihanna's glam, sequin head scarf + smokey makeup. That was flawless with penciled, full brows, subtle bronzer, sexy, dark lined eyes and soft, nude lips.

Want to copy Rihanna's pale, nude lips?

Then try this one by NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Madere ($26, at Sephora).

Lovely Lupita Turns Heads In Bright Blue Eye Shadow

Lupita Nyongo'o is quite beautiful, hence People magazine's most beautiful woman of 2014.

No arguments there. And we like how Lupita takes fashion chances. Alright, her choice for the Met Gala was a fashion bomb, but at least she took the risk and did it with style + confidence.

Just recently, we noted a beauty risk the Academy Award winner took at 2 very public events.

The first was at the Veuve Cicquot Polo Classic at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J. over the weekend. Lupita looked lovely. And we're digging the black, big-brimmed hat---Nice!

But what we're really adoring is the bright blue eye shadow usually seen as a beauty DON'T.

And then again, Lupita wowed us with a glam, cropped jumpsuit at the CFDA Fashion Awards event Monday night. And there's the bright blue eye shadow, once more.

Blue eye shadow is actually pretty with dark brown eyes like Lupita's.

Makeup artist Nick Barose told InStyle.com how he created Lupita's makeup look:

"When it comes to summer makeup, don’t overthink it—blue is actually easier to wear than you imagine. The key is to keep the application simple."

With a wet shadow brush, Nick  applied the cobalt shade from Lancome's 5-Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Midnight Rush ($50; lancome-usa.com), and blended it all over her lids and diffused the color past the crease. "I smudged it around the eyes to create kind of a soft smoke," he says.

"The blue is already such a statement, so go easy with the application, and keep it uncomplicated."

Will you try bright blue eye shadow this summer?

Yes, It's Okay To Trim Your Brows But---Think Conservative Snips!

If you have thin brows and are trying desperately to GROW a fuller pair, remember---It's okay to trim your brows. Seriously, we have to groom; that's what women do.

We've all heard to STAY AWAY from the waxing, plucking, trimming when trying to develop fuller, thicker brows.

Waxing is a given. Stay far from that if your brows are anemic-looking.

Plucking here and there is alright, but you don't want to get caught up in it and remove too many hairs.

The sensible thing to do is this:

Get a brow brush and brow scissors. Tweezerman has a great, little kit.
We found it at Macys.com for $19.

Directions:
1. Brush up hairs with the brow brush.
2. Hold them in place.
3. And with the small brow scissors, snip ONLY the tips above your brow line.

Think conservative snips. Do NOT be too generous with your cutting.

This healthy, little trim will keep your brows in order and growing good!

The Two Best Things You Must Do To Maintain Great Skin

We all want smoother, younger-looking skin, and these days we have a lot of beauty options. Skin care technology has come a long way. From lasers to dermal fillers, there are quick fixes that don't require plastic surgery.

That also means skin care products have evolved quite nicely just in the past 10 years. And that's what we are looking at today.

Here's some smart skin care advice from dermatologist Dr. Brandith Irwin of SkinTour.com.

To maintain GREAT skin, you MUST use these 2 products NOW + ALWAYS:

1. - A potent UVA blocking (they all block UVB) sunscreen.

Dr. Irwin's advice---
  • For daily wear if you are mostly inside, a facial moisturizer or sunscreen with SPF 30 is ideal and easy to use.
  • For days spent outdoors, a higher SPF with is recommended with "broad-spectrum" (better UVA) protection. Look for sunscreens zinc oxide or titanium (5% or greater). Or for sunscreens with Mexoryl 3% or "stabilized" Parsol/avobenzone. These all give excellent UVA and UVB protection.

Elta MD UV Daily SPF 40 Pump($25).

2. - A Retinoid (Vit A cousin cream).

"Retinoids are repair creams that have 20 years of science and experience behind them. They build collagen and normalize sun damaged keratinocytes (skin cells) and help to prevent precancerous growths and skin cancers if used regularly."

Your derm can give you a prescription, but if you prefer over-the-counter, here's one to try.

Skin Medica Retinol Complex .25($57).

Hada Labo: Lovely Liquid Moisturizers From Asia

This is BIG beauty news! And it's becoming popular here in the U.S..

Hada Labo skin care products are already HUGE across Asia. Imagine this:

"One sold every 2 seconds in Japan."

So---what's in these liquid moisturizers?

According to HadaLaboTokyo.com, it's all about the SUPER hyaluronic acid formula:

We all know about hyaluronic acid. It is present in lots of dermal fillers---like Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, Voluma, etc.

When we are young, our skin has generous amounts of hyaluronic acid, because our bodies naturally produce it. That means our complexions are moist, plump + smooth. As we age, the production of this hydrating substance drops off. Our skin becomes drier, less elastic + flatter.

Hada Labo is boasting Super Hyaluronic Acid™---a unique blend of 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid that provides deeper and multi-layer hydration, increasing skin’s levels of moisture dramatically.

Hada Labo Replenishing Hydrator is one of the most popular products. And it's cheap, too. Just $18, at ULTA.
Customer reviews give it a 4.3* out of 5*.

The Anatomy Of Grey: Should We All Let It Go Like Jamie Lee Curtis?!

Going grey, gray or silver can be a very sensitive topic, especially for women.

Many of us turn grey in our 20's (that would be us...sigh). Many of us then quickly dash to the nearest salon to cover up each nasty reminder. Some of us do-it-yourself at home trying to conceal the grey with endless boxes of L'Oreal......"Because we're worth it."

What's the big deal about turning grey?

To most of us at least in our society, getting silver strands means we are getting OLD, and no one, man or woman, wants to go there early, especially women, since we are judged so unfairly about our looks.

So, that is why a lot of people COLOR their hair----to HIDE the greys, grays.

But NOT Jamie Lee Curtis.

The 55-year-old actress is extremely alright with her NATURAL full head of silver strands, and she's workin' it.
At 55, does Jamie Lee look somewhat older with her grey locks?

YES. Just our humble opinion. We think Jamie Lee should COLOR her greys, grays and appear even more youthful.

We think she looks lovely, but, er......older.

Sorry, we said it. Forgive us. We think 55 is still a young age to fight natural aging and yeah, the law of gravity.

Marie Claire magazine interviewed Jamie Lee 7 years ago about her grey locks:

MC: Have you changed your routine?
JLC: My stylist, Sean James, keeps my cut edgy and contemporary — otherwise I can go Bea Arthur very quickly. And I love Phyto Phytargent shampoo. It's the color of balsamic vinegar, but it adds the most incredible shine to my silver hair.

Q: Will you ever go back?
A: Never! To be the only person with my particular color hair is thrilling. It shines more now than it ever did. I love the idea that every year for the rest of my life, my hair will change color naturally. And I found out I've got great natural highlights.

Phyto Phytargent Shampoo, at drugstore.com ($19)
Should Jamie Lee Curtis COLOR her hair, again?

Or leave it all NATURALLY grey?

Can't Live Without Mascara? Then Why Do Formulas Suddenly Dry Out Quickly?

We've admitted this before.....We are a mascara freak. We LOVE mascara and CAN'T live without it.

But we have noticed over the years + years we have been adorning our lashes with mascara, that a single tube doesn't seem to last long anymore.

Are we alone in this thought?

What's going on?

Apparently, they don't make mascara like they used to?

The formulas all seem to DRY OUT within a month.
At the moment, we have 4 mascaras in our makeup stash.

Yes...they are all drugstore brand, and no....We are not ashamed of using cheaper end mascara for the most part:

1. Dried out Maybelline Great Lash.
2. Dried out L'Oreal Voluminous.
3. Dried out L'Oreal Voluminous.
4 New Wet 'n Wild.

We have enjoyed Dior, Lancome and other pricier mascaras, but still end up with minimal product from a single tube.

Makeup experts advise us to TOSS OUT mascara after 2-3 months anyway, no matter how cheap or expensive the label is.

Remember...There's bacteria being passed back + forth to the tube. And whatever bacteria is being collected, is now thriving in the tube. So---to avoid infections like pink eye and so forth...just SPLURGE on new mascara EVERY 2-3 months.

In our case...maybe EVERY month now we will buy a new tube.

There is a way to REVIVE dried out mascara. We've seen the demos on YouTube. You add a couple of drops of contact lens solution to your tube of mascara. Shake it around. Then add a couple of drops of 100% glycerin to the tube. Shake it up---and mascara is like new, again.

Check out the video here.

Statement Necklaces Still Hot For Summer: But Sometimes Simple Is Better!

Statement necklaces seem to be EVERYWHERE these days. And some of these ornate pieces are a bit much. TOO excessive. Over-the-top. Too clunky, even.

Did You Know About Estee Lauder's Cheaper Skin Care Line---Grassroots?

We are rather curious why giant beauty company Estee Lauder keeps their cheaper skin care line on the HUSH-HUSH.

Did you know that Estee Lauder owns the Grassroots Research Labs skin care line?
And that the company sells it at Kohl's department store?

This is the company's newest product----Grape Seed Overnight repair Cream ($35.50).

The cream is formulated to do this:

"This advanced overnight treatment instantly hydrates + intensifies the nightly cycle of natural repair. Visibly reduces lines + wrinkles, promotes natural collagen + elastin production so that skin feels smoother + looks firmer."

It's a good, affordable collection of skin care items and shoppers seem to LOVE Grassroots Research Labs. So why doesn't Estee lauder tell the world about their cheaper line and advertise it?

Strange, because if more shoppers knew about the Estee Lauder connection, we believe the Grassroots beauty label would really start flying off the cosmetic counters at Kohl's.

Grassroots also sells a wonderful Vitamin C cream. Here at Beauty Tip Today, we wrote about the product back in 2009. See the post here.

It also sells for $35.50.

Plus...Grassroots also features a firming cream, firming eye cream, anti-wrinkle cream, and more. Check out the line.

We don't believe Estee Lauder would put their behinds behind a cheaper skin care line if it weren't any good.

We just believe EL ought to do better public relations.

Celebrities Love The Faux Bob Hairstyle For Spring 2014

The faux bob. Lately,we have seen this classic hairstyle on lots of celebrities with past shoulder length hair.

Look at Reese Witherspoon bobbin' it at the recent Met Gala. Sophisticated + sexy! Then there's Selena doing the fake bob and Allison Williams wearing the longer, asymmetrical bob.

Why not just cut your hair into a bob, then?

Well, as women, we all LOVE options. Just like temporary clip-in bangs, the faux bob lets you change it up and go with the trends.

We are all thumbs when it comes to twisting our long hair into ANY kind of bun. So it looks impossible to create. BUT----there are short-cuts.

We don't have a personal stylist at our beckon call.

But you can FAKE a bob with simply a few hairpins. 8 hairpins, to be exact.

We found a good demo here at Elle.com.

Now, if you still cannot fashion your tresses into a glam, faux bob, you could head to your neighborhood store and pick up a cheating hair tool.

The Perfect Bob by Conair. Check out this How-To Video. We found one for $3.99 at Target.

Looks like a hair lasso of sorts.
