Shoulder Pads, Leggings, Minis Spring Ahead In 2009

We thought it would be fun to take a quick peek at NY Fashion Week!

If you really loved the 80's fashions, with the shoulder pads, leggings, and bold colors, you're in luck. There's a whole lot of glam goin' on.

We actually selected some of the 'tamer' looks ruling the New York City runway at Bryant Park.

We're not even showing you the fall fashions yet. Instead, we want to take you right into Spring 2009.

Our first photo shows a model in a design by Tracey Reese. Check out the semi-strong shoulder pads. We still find this quite chic and very wearable.

Oh, boy! You can't escape the leggings, ladies. Uber designer Karl Lagerfeld was showing off some black leggings and skirted tunic tops with very defined waists with big belts.

We love this cute little lace number by classic designer Diane von Furstenberg. It's simple and gorgeous.

Loving the tailored lines in this jacket/trousers collection by DSquared2. Nothing over the top. Sharp-looking and again, very wearable.

Also adoring this khaki, soft outfit by Donna Karan. Even bolder shoulder pads and stronger belt. But it also looks very comfortable, and Donna Karan believes in wearing clothes that are just that---fashion you can move in with simple lines.

Appetite Suppressing Lip Plumping Gloss Made With Hoodia

Huge lips...Skinny hips?!

Oh, yeah. That is actually the name of a new appetite-suppressing lip plumping gloss made with hoodia.

Purple Lab, based in New York City, has developed the unique, in 6-yummy flavors lipgloss with Karen Robinovitz, the brilliant mind behind the Hoodia-infused beauty product. Karen is a NY journalist.

Huge Lips Skinny Hips--- $20 for a luscious tube. The smart glosses will be launching come March 1st on the Space NK website, a British luxury beauty shop.
We're told the glosses all taste like candy. They range in shade from clear to a strong and daring red, with tongue-in-cheek names:

Red Sole Worship
Kate Kitty
Poledancer
Lychee Martini
Love Your Thighs
No Panty Lines

So do these glosses really stop you from eating? And do they really fatten up your lips?
First of all, hoodia (actually Hoodia gordonii extract), is found in nature from cactus-like plants growing in Nambia and South Africa. The plant extract contains special appetite suppressing elements to it.

This gloss is formulated with 10% hoodia. Hoodia is unique in that it fools the brain into thinking it has already eaten. So all you do when wearing it, is smack your lips, baby:

Once the gloss is applied, you merely run your tongue on the lips whenever you feel hungry. In a few seconds, the feeling of hunger will disappear almost completely. Almost.

Well, we're trying to believe this. As far as the Lisa Rinna lips, okay, that's not the effect you will see, but, there are good ingredients found in this Huge Lips Skinny Hips tube of gloss.

And Purple Lab claims their shiny lip color delivers big in a gentle way:
Because it contains vitamin B3, the gloss “stimulate[s] blood flow to the lip surface, diminish[es] the appearance of unsightly wrinkles around the mouth and create[s] a plumping effect without stinging or burning.” the manufacturers say.

If anything, we believe this is a very clever beauty marketing tool. And Karen Robinovitz is a smart cookie. As women, we are all looking for the beauty quick fix. So, bigger lips and skinnier bodies at the same time, sure sounds ideal.

We'll keep our eyes on this little number.

Jessica Simpson Ready To Call Jennny Craig Diet People?

Okay, the rumors have been swirling like a tall, delicious vanilla-chocolate soft serve ice cream cone.

Word has it, that blonde beauty Jessica Simpson will become the new face of Jenny Craig. We have seen several news items about this.

Of course, the Jenny Craig diet people are not talking, and neither is Jessica Simpson.

The very popular weight management service company has paid famous women to join their diet program.....Kirstie Alley, Queen Latifah, Valerie Bertinelli, and now, maybe Jessica Simpson?

We don't believe Jessica Simpson needs to lose much weight. Seriously.

The above photos, which were snapped almost a month ago at the KISS Country Chili Cook-Off in Pembroke Pines, Florida, got tongues-a-waggin'. And the waggin' hasn't ceased.

Jessica was photographed looking a little heavier than she has of late. But in her defense, the double, leopard belt and high-waisted jeans, and huge hair, were not helping matters. In fact, we think the clothing was not flattering and was the reason for the expanded appearance of girth.

Jessica Simpson is really a short and petite woman with curves. We haven't found a guy who doesn't appreciate her beauty.

We thought we'd take a closer look at the Jenny Craig diet, which has been around since 1983. Their website has a number of FAQs:

Q: Do the menus include only Jenny Craig food?
A: Jenny Craig's daily menus include Jenny's Cuisine™ as well as your own food. You'll enjoy three Jenny's Cuisine™ meals and one Jenny's Cuisine™ snack every day, while you provide plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, reduced fat milk products and heart healthy fats.

Q: What calorie level am I going to be on?
A: Your personal Consultant will help you determine your optimal calorie level based on your age, height, current weight, gender and your activity level. Our lowest calorie level is 1200 calories per day, based on the latest Dietary Guideline recommendations.

Q: How much weight can I expect to lose?
A: Whether you would like to lose a small amount of weight for a special occasion such as a wedding or reunion, or want to make more significant changes, Jenny Craig has Program options to meet your needs. The Jenny Craig Program has been designed to result in a weekly weight loss of one to two pounds or 1% of your body weight*. These results may vary based on an individual's personal weight history, body composition, level/frequency of physical activity, and motivation among other factors.

Q: What kinds of Jenny's Cuisine™ food items do you offer?
A: We offer a wide variety of delicious and nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack items. Because they're so easy to prepare in either a microwave or traditional oven, Jenny's Cuisine™ can fit into even the busiest lifestyles. All of our Jenny Craig foods are pre-packaged and pre-portioned, and are available in frozen or shelf-stable formats. Selections range from French Toast with Berries and Silver Dollar Pancakes with Veggie Sausage (breakfast) and Pan Pizza (lunch), to Chicken Fettuccine and Beef Sirloin Bowl (dinner) and Double Chocolate Cake and Cheese Curls (snacks).

Are you ready to call Jenny?

Learn How DMAE Can Firm And Lift Sagging Skin

If you have read Dr. Nicholas Perricone's beauty books, ( namely one of his most popular ones, "The Wrinkle Cure") throughout its pages, you would see the letters DMAE, over and over again.

What exactly is DMAE?

In quick beauty speak, DMAE is a superb firming agent for the skin.

The real word is---dimethylaminoethanol.

If you believe Dr. Perricone's beauty research, then you would learn that DMAE is a miracle nutrient. It's even found in natural sources like salmon. You can take DMAE supplements, and use topical DMAE.

DMAE has the power to improve the appearance of sagging skin. It can remove soften and diminish undereye bags, firm neck lines, and even give you fuller lips.

"When DMAE is applied to the skin, the skin looks firmer, less lined and smoother. There is an immediate improvement in the appearance of elasticity and luminosity to the skin. DMAE enhances the appearance of facial contours. Clinical Results after 2 weeks of use:
74% of participants reported significant improvement in skin firmness
66% of participants showed improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, Perricone explains."

In other words, look for skin serums and creams containing DMAE in the list of ingredients.

Since we started talking about Dr. Perricone and his beauty obsession with this so-called miracle nutrient, then we will look at his products first:

1. ADVANCED Face Firming Activator - 2.0 ozBest of Sephora 2007 NomineeFeatured in InStyle magazine

ADVANCED Eye Area Therapy - 0.5 ozFeatured in Lucky, Real Simple, US Weekly & WWD Beauty magazines
.
Total cost: $215.00, at http://www.perriconemd.com/.

On a much cheaper beauty note, and looking at another well-respected skin care brand, we did a little digging and found a competitive DMAE beauty treatment:

2. RoC Protient Fortify Lift and Define Eye Cream ($25, 0.5 Oz, at local drugstores).

It works - the light, silky fluid absorbs quickly and begins working immediately with a unique blend of wheat polymer and DMAE a high performance tightening agent to help strengthen and tone the skin around your eyes.
Visibly lifts eyelids.
Firms skin around eye.
Reduces puffiness.
In addition to the eye cream, ROC offers several face creams and serums with the 'protient and lift' features.

As Dr. Perricone writes in The Wrinkle Cure:

"We do not have to age like our parents. We can hold on to our vitality and look well into our later years. Plastic surgery isn't the only way to keep the aging process at bay. With the proper care, you can have fabulous skin in your forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond."

Even Eva Longoria Can Have A Less Than Perfect Hair Day

Okay, maybe we are really stretch-inggggg it when we say that beautiful actress Eva Longoria has a bad hair day every once in a while.

In the photo above, courtesy of louislicari.ivillage.com, we think Eva Longoria Parker looks pretty darn hot. (We love reading Louis Licari's blog at i.village.com!)
But apparently, not everyone thought the hairstyle she pulled off for the SAG Awards show last month was all that. And time is nearing for the biggest night of makeup and hairstyles:
The 2009 Academy Awards Show next Sunday, February 22nd.

According to one of our favorite Hair know-it-alls, and he really does know hair, Louis Licari details the problems with Eva Longoria's hair:

"The first woman I noticed was Eva Longoria Parker. She had her hair highlighted since we saw her last at the Globes. I think it would have looked prettier if she had just softened the color with a single process. Her highlights looked brassy and it made her skin appear a bit sallow.

TIP: To look your best, make sure your hair color always provides contrast with your complexion."

We are curious to see how Hollywood's finest beauties will walk down the red carpet next Sunday. Will makeup be soft? Or will strong red lips match the red carpet?! And will the easy, carefree bob haircut rule the night?

Louis Licari says that wavy bobs, like the sexy style worn by Anne Hathaway, at the recent SAG Awards, are very popular with the Hollywood crowd.

There's just one tiny faux pas, Ms. Hathaway made, according to our hair genius:

"Next I noticed Anne Hathaway. Her color looked beautiful, but her wavy bob had lost its oomph. As the evening progressed, her hair became straighter and straighter. I think she was trying to keep it loose and modern, but the style fell apart.

TIP: Using the right strength hair product will maintain your hairstyle without making it look forced into place."

It's going to be an exciting night for the 2009 Academy Awards Show next Sunday. We will be watching.

Looking more polished is the biggest trend of the new year, says Louis Licari. Let's hope the most important Hollywood night of the year does not disappoint.

We're looking for the 'glam-slam.'

To Peel Or Not To Peel For Softer Younger Skin

For us, this is a no-brainer.

Yes. We should all peel. Chemical peel, that is. Unless of course, you have the most amazing, soft, and clear skin around.

A chemical peel does not peel away your skin. However, it sometimes feels that way, because the peels themselves, can be quite strong and stinging to the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the skin, in the same way you would apply a toner.

A peel actually dissolves the upper layers of the skin, to make way for new skin tissue to form. Peels are applied to the face, neck, or hands. You are dissolving dead skin cells, exfoliating, and in the end, rejuvenating the skin.

The benefits of a chemical peel are several:

1. Brighter skin tone
2. Softer skin

3. Cleaner pores
4. Tighter skin
5. Fine lines and wrinkles become less pronounced
6. General re-surfacing of the skin

You can do at-home peels, but you must follow directions exactly, because you can burn your skin. It's best to have a chemical peel done at the dermatologist's office first, to experience this bizarre-feeling skin procedure. And then you can learn to do peels at home for a much cheaper price.

Chemical peels come in different solution strengths. And there are several types of peels. The most popular being glycolic acid peels, TCA peels, lactic acid peels, phenol peels, and Alpha Hydroxy Acid peels.

We recommend these 2 websites for chemical peel products and information:

1. http://www.platinumskincare.com/

2. http://www.30glycolic.com/

We have a friend who told us about a friend of hers at work, who was constantly getting chemical peels. Our friend told us, that she didn't notice anything different about her co-worker's skin, except to say, that the woman always had a beautiful complexion to begin with.

Maybe that's why the woman's skin looked so glowing and healthy. Chemical peels are subtle beauty boosters. Peels do not replace face lifts, but these chemical solutions do play an important role in getting rid of old, dead skin cells. And in time, fine lines and wrinkles do not appear to be so deep, large pores are cleaned out and shrink a bit, acne disappears, and there is that soft, youthful glow.

Give your skin time, ladies. Chemical peels do work. Patience is required.

The Power Of The Peptides In Skin Rejuvenation

Remember these words: Blue Copper 5.

This ain't your mama's jar of cold cream, ladies.

The science has advanced greatly in the war on wrinkles and aging. And some of the most encouraging skin rejuvenation has come about from the power of the peptides. Namely copper and the 5-chain Penta-Peptide joining hands and giving women back the skin they crave for most: firm, supple, and healthy-looking.

We have talked about copper peptides before, and the amazing skin care science that has emerged, thanks to the genius of biochemist Dr. Loren Pickart.

It was Pickart who discovered the role that remodeling copper peptides play in the repair of human skin and other tissues. This peptide is called, GHK-Copper. And it is being cited as a new weapon in the anti-aging arsenal.

“I have studied methods of reversing human aging for my entire career,” Dr. Pickart said. “It was from these studies, that the human GHK-Copper was found.”

And today because of his inventions and GHK-Copper, giant skin care companies have products based on his discoveries.

And namely, Blue Copper 5, a superb copper peptide beauty treatment by Osmotics. This jar contains a skin firming and elasticity repair serum (1.7 oz, $85, osmotics.com).

As the Osmotics folks like to say at their website: "The intelligent choice for ageless beauty."

So, do you really need copper peptides in your skin care routine?

Yes. According to their website, it's for anyone wanting increased firmness, elasticity and tone - those concerned with preventing and repairing damaged skin and signs of aging. Perfect for all skin types including sensitive.

Oil Of Olay Introduces Most Potent Skin Line Pro-X

Ladies, we have been hearing lots of hype about the well-respected Oil of Olay skin care brand and its 2009 debut of Pro-X. Well, it's finally here!!!!

It's quite a bit pricier than all the other fine Olay skin care beauty treatments. But Olay says the clinical trials have proven it's valuable stuff.

Pro-X is formulated with proprietary peptides. That translates into collagen-boosting ingredients. And we could all use a little more of that.

Each wrinkle-fighting product in the Olay Pro-X skin care arsenal costs at least $40 and higher.

Some women who have tried the Pro-X line, say it works wonders, when combined with proven wrinkle-fighter Retin-A. Hmmm- we are intrigued by that.

Meantime, why not sample the new Oil of Olay Pro-X skin care line by purchasing the starter protocol kit. You get to try 3 superior treatments:

Protect skin in the morning with Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30, spreading evenly over your face and neck.

Treat skin morning and night by applying Eye Restoration Complex to the corners, lid and sub orbital eye area, massaging thoroughly until absorbed.

Transform skin at night with Wrinkle Smoothing Cream by smoothing over your face and neck.

Here's the good news----the Olay starter protocol kit costs $61.50 at drugstore.com. But the sweet Oil of Olay folks are offering you a nice little rebate:

Special offer: save $25
From now until March 8, 2009, get a $25 rebate with the purchase of $50 worth of Pro-X products.

Simply visit: http://www.olayprofessional.com/.

Look, we like to pretend we are a skin care snob, but if this stuff works wonders, then just pass us the Pro-X.

How To Get Shiny Hair In A Bottle The Citre Way

We talk a lot here about hair.

When you see a beautiful head of shiny tresses, it makes you wonder. Was she born with such shiny hair? Or is she spraying on something that gives it such a glossy high-wattage brilliance?!

With all the abuse we do to our many, many strands of hair, it's a wonder that we have any left on our heads. Think about it--shampooing every day in the shower for many of us. Blowdrying, day after day after day. Heading out into the harsh elements of blazing days in the sun. Dry, brittle cold nights of winter. Pollution. Smog. Constant coloring and perming and straightening.

The makers of Citre hair products have a new kid on the block, and it's a keeper:

Citre Shine Color Prism Thermo Defense Shine Glaze ($5.99, at a drugstore near you).

That's quite a mouthful. But the product rocks!!

"This Multi - Reflective Thermo Defense Shine Glaze will protect all colored hair from the drying, damaging effects of heat styling. This thermo active formula enriched with citrus waxes shields your hair creating resistance to damage from heat styling, leaving hair protected, healthy and full of multi - dimensional shine."

What we find refreshing about this Citre Shine Glaze is its gentleness to colored hair. But most importantly, its texture. You merely spritz it on to towel-dried hair, and then blowdry. Or you can add it as a finishing touch to dry hair.

The serum is wonderful. It doesn't give you a head of the 'greasies.' And we all know that can happen when you over-dose on the typical shine serums.

It's all in the science of the citrus waxes. According to the Citre company, these waxes are "naturally prismatic as they create an invisa - shield around the hair shaft, adding multi - dimensional highlights while helping to protect and prolong color vibrancy."

Shine on, ladies. At $5.99 a bottle, this stuff goes a long way.

Allergan Botox Maker Now Excited About Latisse For Long Lashes

Some women are calling Latisse, Botox for the eyes.

But you don't have to worry. This exciting new product developed by Allergan, the same folks who brought you Botox, does not entail stinging needle pricks around your eyelids. Thank goodness.

Latisse could prove to be one of the most important beauty treatments in 2009.

Latisse grows you longer, thicker, darker eyelashes and all with a simple, painless drop of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution-0.03%. The Latisse.com website explains it all:

"Remove an applicator from its tray. Then, holding the sterile applicator horizontally, place one drop of LATISSE™ solution on the area of the applicator closest to the tip but not on the tip.

Immediately draw the applicator carefully along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes (where the eyelashes meet the skin) just as you would apply liquid eyeliner. This area should feel lightly moist without runoff.

Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid with a tissue."

What we love about this eyelash thickener---it's the first and only one for treatment approved by the FDA for hypotrichosis of the eyelashes. That means, having inadequate lashes.

This is a once-daily prescription, available only through a doctor.

What's remarkable, you can see a signifcant difference in upper eyelashes in about 8 weeks, with full results in 16 weeks. By the way, this prescripition is not designed to use for the lashes along the lower lid.

But you must be anchored to Latisse for life. In other words, if you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance within weeks or months.

Any harmful side effects? According to Allergan, the clinical trials lasted for 13 years, and the product has proven to be quite safe. Usually redness or itchiness around the eye is common. But, there are a couple of concerns:

"LATISSE™ use may cause darkening of the eyelid skin which may be reversible. Although not reported in clinical studies, LATISSE™ use may also cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye which is likely to be permanent."

We still believe that Latisse is a super beauty treatment for women who have always desired long, thick, dark lashes. The results are amazing. And your doctor will be able to determine if you are, in fact, a good candidate for this prescription.

Latisse by the way, is here. Allergan is launching the beauty product nationwide in the first quarter of this new year.

Visit http://www.latisse.com/ for further product and prescribing information.

New List Of Best Tasting Coffee But Too Much Shrinks Breasts?!

We know. Most of you love a good cup of coffee. And we are happy to give you Consumer Reports' New List Of the Best Tasting Coffee for 2009. This little nugget is coming out in their March issue.

You will learn that a great-tasting cup of joe does not have to cost a lot. But we also found some disturbing news for women who love drinking as little as 3 cups of coffee a day. If you believe the latest scientific study published in the British Journal of Cancer, then this is quite stunning:

Drinking caffeine over an extended period of time makes women's breasts shrink.

The New York Post was the first media outlet where we picked up this information. Read on:

"A new study has found that drinking caffeine over an extended period of time makes women's breasts shrink. Unfortunately, the same study also found that gals may have to make a hard choice between breast size and breast safety, because drinking caffeine also helps protect against cancer. According to the research, regular drinking of as little as three cups daily a day can have an enough of an impact on estrogen levels to cause noticeable bosom reduction."

Well, ladies, if you can look forward to a good cup of coffee after that little stat, then let's take a look at Consumer Reports which studied 19 ground coffees.

The clear cut winner, and a cost-saving brand at that---Eight O'Clock Coffee.

Yes, the 15-cents a cup favorite beat out the snob brands like Starbucks and popular supermarket choice Folgers.

2nd best-tasting coffee: Caribou Coffee Colombia Timana.
3rd best-tasting coffee: Kickapoo Coffee Organic Colombia.

According to Consumer Reports' Bob Markovich, there is something, well, 'fruity in flavor' about the high scoring coffees.

"What made them good is they tended to be fragrant with floral and earthy notes, so this is the kind of coffee you can drink even when it's black," Markovich said. "When you start to go down the list of stuff that isn't as good, you're going to probably want to add milk or sugar or cream."

The complete list of best-tasting coffee will appear in the March issue of Consumer Reports magazine.

In the meantime, all you coffee-loving sisters out there, don't become too freaked out over the findings. The study's author, Helena Jernstroem of the University of Sweden, claims that your bosom will not pull an instant abracadabra .

"Coffee-drinking women do not have to worry that their breasts will shrink to nothing overnight," said Jernstroem, who came across the findings during a cancer-research study.
"They will get smaller, but the breasts aren't just going to disappear," she added.

How To Care For Your Over-processed Over-blown Fried Hair

Dear Drew Barrymore:
Please forgive us for using your photo as an example of over-processed, over-blown, fried hair. Actually, we think you are quite pretty and look very Marilyn Monroe here, at the recent Golden Globes awards show.

Sincerely,
BeautyTipToday

We adore talented actress Drew Barrymore. Her newly blonded hair? Well, a number of stylists were quite critical of the shape her processed locks were in. Some were using words like: straw. fried. damaged. brittle. bird's nest. You get the picture.
We have all suffered from some form of damaged hair. It can come about from bleaching the daylights out of dark hair. Or from perming and then coloring over. From too much blow-drying. From chlorinated pools. Brushing through wet hair over and over again. And so on.

Fried hair. No shine. Dull. So what's a gal to do?

Hair experts always say the best, instant remedy----a cut! Yes, we're talking scissors here. Sometimes you just can't salvage an overly-processed head of hair. You might have to lose a few inches.

And then, to nurse your locks back to good health, you must follow some basic steps. And we learned ours from the King of Color, Louis Licari, the legendary celebrity stylist. We have read a couple of his books, and trust us, he knows hair very well.

Louis Licari recently told Vogue Magazine, that you can manage your over-processed, over-blown, fried hair at home. It all begins with washing your hair. And most of us don't do it right.

"Women use too much shampoo. Wash with conditioner every other time."

Sounds too simple, but Louis is the master.

You can color your hair. But try and stay away from ammonia. Buy gentler products like Clairol's Perfect 10, which will cover grays and be kinder to your roots.

You can blow-dry and/or flat-iron your tresses. But look for ionic styling machines that deliver less damage to hair. And please, do not brush through wet hair. Use a big-toothed comb.

Sensible hair tips from a smart hair guy. Thanks, Louis.

Dr 90210 Making Women Beautiful With New Skin Line

Dr. Robert Rey. You sure are handsome. And you try to make women more beautiful, so we can't find too much wrong with you.

The most popular plastic surgeon on E!'s Dr. 90210 reality television show, has the world of beauty buzzing with his new skin care line for women:

Dr. Robert Rey Sensual Solutions.

"The only skincare approach to ageless, timeless beauty for women who want doctor's office results with no appointment necessary."

Alright. We like the concept behind this skin care line: No needles. No scalpel. No downtime.

But ladies, let us remind you. This is a hot plastic surgeon, known for his minimal scar surgeries, with a practice located in gorgeous Beverly Hills. These aren't cheap beauty treatments from the Harvard Medical School trained Dr. Rey.

The prices are steep, especially if you are pinching pennies like most of us these days. But the Brazilian doctor has put together some very effective skin care products.

Nordstrom's is offering an exclusive starter kit from Dr. Robert Rey's Sensual Solutions line. It's cleverly called---'Let Me Introduce You' Starter Kit ($150, at nordstrom's fine dept. stores).

Before you pooh-pooh the cost, let's take a look at the variety you will be getting:

Set includes Body Liftox™ Anti-Aging Body Lift Cream with AActive6-Exotics™ (1.7 oz.)
Face Up to It™ Gentle Oxygenating Cleanser with AActive6-Exotics™ (1.5 oz.)
Eye Full™ Contouring Wrinkle Filler with AActive6-Exotics™ (0.25 oz.)
From Your Lips™ Instant Lip Plumper with AActive6-Exotics™ (0.03 oz.)
and Inhibitox™ Instant Wrinkle Erase with AActive6-Exotics™ (0.5 oz.).

Curious about the AActive6-Exotics ingredient? According to Dr. Robert Rey, this formulation is in his beauty treatments because of it's strength in fighting wrinkles. This 'exotics complex' is made up of "six potent natural anti-aging ingredients from the Brazilian rain forest."

Come on, we believe Dr. 90210's Robert Rey. He seems so sincere. We are giving his new skin care line the green light!

Hematite From Magma Rock Rejuvenates Mature Skin

You can even find hematite on planet Mars! Go figure.

Not exactly science fiction, but we have to love the beauty technology that develops each passing day.

Maybe you have already read about hematite extract, an iron oxide, and how it can bring back the resiliency and tone to mature skin. Hematite, when extracted properly and formulated into a skin care treatment, is able to slo-wwww down the aging process. There is something in this energy from the earth, that can re-activate pro-collagen synthesis.

Collagen gives our skin suppleness and elasticity. And as we get older, collagen production is on the wane.

Obtaining and then mixing hematite mineral complex into a beauty formula probably isn't easy. That's why you will notice this little gem of a rock is not cheap. But here are 2 fine hematite extract serums for you to try:

1. PurMinerals 'While You Were Out' ($49.50, purminerals.com). A 2-step anti-aging kit that rejuvenates and repairs skin while you are fast asleep. Includes an evening peel and recovery duo. The hematite extract helps firm the skin, and the formula helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age spots.

2. Bieux Skin BioNaturals Regimen Introduction Kit ($115, beauty.com). This 3-piece collection includes a power lift and repair serum. 24-hour treatment moisturizer. advanced eye treatment cream. Again, the emphasis is on tightening and improving the skin. What you get back is a radiant complexion.

Miss Pakistan World Representing New Generation Of Women

Natasha Paracha is both smart and stunning with a good head on her shoulders, as they say.

The 24-year-old raven-haired beauty has been enjoying her reign as Miss Pakistan World 2008.

We got to learn more about the Islamabad-born pageant winner on a recent Good Morning America segment. She is living in New York City and working for the United Nations. And she was gracious to let us interview her about her favorite beauty tips and dreams for her Pakistani countrywomen.

"I work for IREO, which is a renewable energy organization at the United Nations. I hope to continue to promote the use of alternative energies throughout the globe."

Natasha Paracha, is an ambassador for the new generation of Pakistani women.

"Participating in Miss Pakistan World has opened many doors for me. This pageant has provided me with a platform to be an ambassador for my country and represent Pakistan at an international level. I am honored and humbled with my new role."

Life in Pakistan can be quite a challenge for girls growing up with dreams and goals, because of conservative Islamic views. There is still much work to be done for Muslim women to achieve as equal a footing as men. The Miss Pakistan World pageants are actually held in Toronto, Canada. Women like Natasha Paracha and founder of the Miss Pakistan World Beauty Pageant, Sonia Ahmed, are courageous and anxious for opportunities to spread their wings. They are representing the next generation of modern Pakistani women, trying to create a new role for Muslim women in society.

"My family has a long standing history in Pakistan; it is where we have basically spent our childhood. Also, all of my extended family lives in the Lahore or Islamabad. I want young Pakistani women to know that they can succeed in any facet of life that they choose. I don't want to be cliché, but the world is your oyster and our time is now to take advantage of that. "

In the meantime, like many of us, Miss Pakistan World 2008, enjoys wearing makeup and living a healthy lifestyle. Although she has makeup artists for special events, Natasha usually applies her own cosmetics. And let's be honest here, when it comes to lining eyes perfectly, South Asian women have the upper hand.

"I only started wearing make-up recently. If you are in a rush, there are really only two things that one needs: mascara and eyeliner. My go to products are the Dior Black Out Mascara and Mac Eyeliner."

Natasha also adores brightening her lips with these popular brands.
"I am a lip-gloss fanatic. I'm actually in the process of starting my own lip-gloss with a few of my friends. My favorite brands right now would be Nars and Dior Addict."

As far as her crowning glory, that long, shiny dark hair, Miss Pakistan World 2008 doesn't get caught up in the chemical processes of coloring or perming.

"My hair kind of has a mind of its own. During the winters it becomes stick straight and during the summers it's wavy. I try not to use any products in my hair, but if I'm going for a certain look I stick to organic hair products. Coming from a Pakistani background, I think we have some very unique homemade beauty treatments. When I was younger, my mom would put coconut oil and eggs in my hair. It was classic, I have not done that in a while though. I think the secret is just avoiding too many chemicals or products, just keep it simple."

Natasha is proud of her Pakistani roots and her exotic features, and would hope that women everywhere, both young and older, could learn to love how they look. The world is a big place, and there is plenty of room for every set of features.

"I think every woman should feel comfortable in their own skin. And it's wonderful to be unique. Even in Pakistan, we have all kinds of looks: light eyes, dark eyes, blonde hair, brunettes and many unique looks. Since you are a Greek yourself, you must have heard of the Kalash people of Pakistan, who are Greek. So Pakistan is like the melting pot of many looks as we are surrounded by many countries."

In closing, Miss Pakistan World 2008 had this advice for her Pakistani sisters:

"Pakistani women have come a long way and the Miss Pakistan World pageant is a platform for the new generation of Pakistani women to represent themselves. My message to those women would be to take that chance and avail the opportunity. Thank you."

Raspberries Possibly Holding Key To Beautiful Skin

As you know by now, we like exploring the world of beauty:
especially when it comes to our skin. Both inside and out.

We have previously researched the benefits and power of red raspberry tea for taming cellulite and slimming one's figure.

We learned this in an interview with world-famous cellulite expert Anushka:

"Raspberry tea. It's wonderful for women in general," Anushka says. "In addition to acting as a diuretic which helps reduce bloating (leading to a slimmer silhouette), it also helps alleviate menstrual discomfort and cramps, reduces heavy bleeding, promotes healthy skin, bones, and teeth. And when combined with peppermint tea, can help with morning sickness."
http://www.beautytiptoday.com/2008/03/anushkas-special-tea-fights-cellulite.html

And now we have dug a little deeper. According to the science out there, raspberries contain lots of Vitamin C, and more importantly, ellagic acid. This acid is a potential cancer fighter, and many people have reported that raspberries have helped them reduce and/or wipe out their skin cancer.

Today, we are looking at one of the more popular raspberry extract gels that claim to support beautiful and healthy skin. It's a 2 oz. jar called Raspex SPF 30 Skin Gel ($24.95, at http://www.smdi.org/).

"Rub this cream on pre-cancerous spots or even skin cancer. No pain. No Scarring. The Raspex Skin Cream contains ellagitannins from Raspberry Extract, is an excellent sun protection lotion having an SPF of 30 and will repair sun burns if applied within 4 hours. Shows excellent results for burns, age spots, moles, warts, rosacea, rashes etc. Boosts the skin's immune system, maintains skin suppleness, reduces wrinkles, promotes healing, reduces scaring and improves fine capillary blood flow."

We haven't tried this little hope-in-a-jar for beautiful skin yet. But the science is intriguing us. Just remember: Do not expect instant results. We all seem to be impatient these days. Give any skin care jar of serum, cream or gel at least 6-8 weeks before tossing the bottle against a wall in frustration.

And if you can get your hands on some fresh raspberries, enjoy them. They are a healthy and delicious fruit.

No Room Left: What Containers Do You Store Your Makeup In?

This is a big problem for us. How about you?

Simply speaking---there is no room left. So, what containers do your store your makeup in?!

No, this is not our supply of Estee Lauder makeup (we wish).

Maybe you have a small apartment in the city, and there is a limited amount of space. Or maybe your husband has little room left on the dresser because of all your beauty stuff. Could it be you are just not organized and you can't always locate your fav MAC makeup?

We have heard horror stories from some of our girlfriends on where they store their beauty products:

under the bed in a box
in makeup bags under the bathroom sink cabinet
in an old cigar box in the drawer
crammed into the one bathroom cabinet
in the car glovebox
here, there, and everywhere

And then there are the lucky gals who have armoires to nicely and neatly store their beauty stuff in. Or beautiful, covered seagrass baskets to tuck away their cosmetics. How about spacious vanity tables. A separate bathroom from him. In a big, walk-in closet with lots of little shelves to organize makeup.

Trying to keep your face and body clean, along with makeup supplies and makeup removers, and skin care treatments, and so on, we are all running out of space!!

We'll be honest. We have some small wicker and rattan baskets we toss our beauty stuff in. And even an old, wooden jewelry box. And in some milk glass bowls. And then try to jam some beauty treatments in the closet inside more wicker containers. In the narrow bathroom closet. Folks, it can be a nightmare.

And now in the the new year, we promise to take inventory of our beauty stuff. We swear we will throw out beautiful things we never use, are past the expiration date, etc. And we are going to find some new containers to store our makeup in.

How about you? For some great container tips, visit: organize.com for tons of containers.

Still Good To Be Gisele Even If Not Engaged To Tom

Is she engaged, or isn't she?

We're talking about that supermodel born in Brazil. Gisele Bundchen. And Tom. Brady, that is. Injured
New England Patriots Quarterback.

Does it really matter if Gisele is engaged?!
It's still good to be Gisele. Even alone, that is.

We just learned that she's been tapped to be the new girl in the Rampage clothing ads. And then another big lay-out for Spring and Summer 2009 Dior.

And then of course, Gisele Bundchen is working the gig she picked up a few months ago, as the new face of beauty for the famous Max Factor makeup company.

Gisele is re-energizing the cosmetics dynasty with her sexy, clean looks. Max Factor has been in the biz for a long time. 100 years to be exact, this year in 2009!! That's amazing staying power for a makeup giant.

So it comes as no surprise, that the Brazilian beauty favors this mascara for really gorgeous lashes:

MAX FACTOR 2000 CALORIE EXTREME LASH PLUMPER ($9.99, at drugstores).

Gisele told this to InStyle magazine:
“I’m obsessed with the new 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper. I have light lashes so putting on dark mascara make my whole face look awake. This mascara looks like I’m wearing fake lashes.”

And Gisele Bundchen also listed these beauty
favorites:

Benefit Miss Popularity: “I put a little of this highlighter around my eyes to brighten my overall look.”
Gabbana The One: “I can wear this for any occasion, day or night.”
Dr. Alkaitis Organic Eye Creme: “I love organic products. This cream is so natural, you can eat it!”
Nars the Multiple in Orgasm: “This blush gives me a peachy, dewy look like I just came off the beach.”
Cle De Peau La Creme: “I use it when I travel to keep my skin hydrated at high altitudes.”
La Mer Lip Balm: “It makes my lips feel smooth and silky."

2009 Spring Hair--How To Get The Do Of The Moment

Ready to spring ahead with your hair gorgeously flapping in the breeze for 2009?!

We took a look through the fashion bibles and landed on Harper's Bazaar. They show us how to get the do of the moment!
There are lots of possibilities, like the fresh and pretty clean look of long, wavy hair (top photo). This was photographed backstage at Ralph Lauren's runway show. This hair do is soft and effortless.

Then there is the sleek and perfect ponytail, snapped at the Versace show. The stylists call this the minimalist ponytail. We love this look. Where do you grow perfect hair like that, we ask? Stunning.
There are also many French twists featured at the Yves St. Laurent runway shows, and a number of glamorous knots in the hair of the Lanvin models, resembling the little buns seen on ballerinas.
The look is simple but glam, to balance the volume of the clothing for 2009.

And as we have been repeating these past few articles, yes, red lips are still hot for spring. But so are nude lips. The minimal lip shade or neutral,is back in a BIG way!!. But to balance the soft nude mouth, dark-rimmed eyes are major. And preferably in black!!

Want an easy way to line your eyes? So you don't have to keep trying to get it just right? Try Cover Girl's Line Exact in Very Black ($5.99, drugstores). It's a super liquid eyeliner that looks like a felt pen. And it works like a felt pen with a nice, sharp line. Simply, beautiful Cover Girl.

We like CG's Line Exact 'pen.' The only misgiving we found, was that the supply ran out too fast. In other words, the pen didn't seem to hold enough liner in it. It didn't even last a month. We would like to buy it again, because it's an easy fool-proof way to a nicely lined eye.
